Gone are those days when exploration companies plug and abandon marginal oilfields. The advent of FPSO platforms has made exploration more economical and flexible. Oil-producing companies can now take advantage of the new technology to explore marginal fields as well as deeper waters. In this article, we will be listing out some FPSO platforms or crude oil terminals in Brazil.

What is FPSO Platform?
FPSO is an acronym for Floating, Production, Storage and Production. It is a movable production oil platform that can produce, store and offload crude oil into another vessel.
An FPSO platform can perform optimally not only in shallow waters but also, in ultra-deep oceans.
Also, they come in different shapes and sizes, and they are becoming more popular in recent years, thanks to their flexibility.
Advantages of FPSO Platforms
First, FPSO is more economical compared to what it takes to set up other types of offshore platforms. It doesn’t require massive structures thus, minimizing the cost of drilling an exploratory well.
Second, with the advent of floating, production, storage and offloading, producers can explore marginal oil fields.
Third, ship owners can convert their old vessels into a production platform hence, reducing the cost of setting it up. Also, this gives room for more entrants into the industry as well as inter-corporate investment.
